Reaching Out: Living God’s Heart in Our Community
Earlier this year, we explored what community means at Jubilee Church – first looking at A Spirit of Community, then A Gifted Community. This week, Sarah, our Children’s and Communities Pastor, shares how we’re reaching out into our local community.
Why Community Outreach Matters
Loving and serving others is at the core of God’s mission. As followers of Jesus, we’re called to show His love through our actions – especially to those in need (Micah 6:8, Psalm 146:7-9). Acts of kindness and compassion open doors for the gospel, and when we let our light shine (Matt 5:16), people see something of God in us.
Our Heart for the Community
At Jubilee, we want to be known as a church for the whole family. A place where people feel welcomed, connected, and supported. Over the years, we’ve launched a number of outreach initiatives, beginning with the Children’s Storehouse and working closely with local schools.
Supporting Families
Family is one of our core values. In a time when many feel stretched or isolated, we want to come alongside families, offering practical help and meaningful connection. Through parenting courses like Time Out for Parents, we help mums and dads strengthen their relationships with their children and with each other.
Building Intergenerational Community
One of our most beautiful recent projects is Toddlers Together – a weekly group that brings local care home residents together with young children and their parents. It’s a space full of laughter, connection and life. One resident said, “It shows we are not forgotten.” That’s the heart of this – reminding people they matter.

Church in the Care Home
Out of these friendships, more doors have opened. We’ve been invited to run church services in the care home – some residents are encountering church for the first time, others are reconnecting with something deeply meaningful from their past. It’s become a place of worship, connection and joy.
Where It’s All Heading
As we continue to serve, we trust God will use every conversation, every act of kindness, and every connection to bring hope, healing and faith. Outreach isn’t a programme – it’s the natural overflow of God’s love working through us.
