Trusting in God

29th April 2026 by Bernice Hopper

Trusting in God

In the few short months of this year we have seen the war against Iran, the continuing war in Gaza and in Ukraine, a rise in the cost of living and increased reporting of turmoil across the world. The news and social media bombard us with negativity. There are various issues in this country plus we have our own personal challenges – situations at work or in our families.

If we are not careful we can be easily swayed by all this and become fearful. Or become stressed and anxious. However we have a sovereign God who is perfectly holy, perfectly righteous, perfectly just, perfectly wise, perfectly good, perfectly faithful and the source of perfect peace.

Isaiah tells us that God ‘will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.’ Isaiah 26:3

A steadfast mind

As we trust God in all things we will gain a ‘’steadfast’ mind. In his letter to the Philippians Paul writes:
’Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus’. Philippians 4:6-7

God wants us to trust Him and to follow his plans and purposes.
‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.’ Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

Benefits of trusting God

Isaiah paints a picture of the what happens when we trust God.
‘But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.’ Isaiah 40:31

And when we fully trust there is not only the peace mentioned at the beginning of this post but there’s also joy.

‘The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.’ Psalm 28:7
