Celebrating Jubilee Church
As we celebrate 15 years since the founding of Jubilee Church, it’s a good time to look at what makes Jubilee what it is today. We are a diverse group of people, coming from different backgrounds and experiences, but all committed to Jesus and to the vision, values and culture at Jubilee. It’s a good time to remind ourselves what holds us together.
Vision
Jubilee Church is about building a community of people who know who they are, who know what we have and know what they are called to do. Click on the links to read more about these three important areas.
Values
Our values are contained in what we call our culture words: Family, Passion, Honour, Courage and Authenticity. But they are more than just words. They contain the essence of who we are as a church and how we demonstrate this outside the church – in the community, in our workplaces, in our schools and colleges, with our friends.
Family
Perhaps your experience of your earthly family has been poor but God has a better family for us. His family. There are frequent mentions of family in the Bible. Maybe you could do a study of this. Here are a few verses to get you started.
We are children of God: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1).
We are a family of believers: “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Gal. 6:10).
We are members of God’s household: “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.” (Eph. 2:19-20).
God has called us to be in relationship with one another. To support and encourage one another. The best description of this relationship with God and with all believers is family.
Passion
We are a group of people who are passionate about Jesus. We seek Him first and His presence. Our recent series: Jesus is Passing By was about the need for us to cry out to Jesus. Not just a feeble cry but an all-out passionate shout.
As a church we are also passionate about helping those less fortunate than ourselves. The Children’s Storehouse provides clothes for so many children.
The River Flows Out
It’s important that we live out our values at home and in our community. As a church we are keen to tell people the good news of Jesus through our words, our story and through our actions.
Honour, Authenticity and Courage
In the next blog post we will look at our values and what it means to have a culture of honour, authenticity and courage.
