Introducing the Jubilee team: Ruth

26th January 2017 by Bernice Hopper

Introducing Ruth

In today’s ‘interview’ we are finding out all about Ruth.   Ruth is an essential team member.  She ensures the smooth running of the church office and various church events.  Her official role is Personal Assistant but she does so much more for the church.

How did you become a Christian?

It’s funny, I’m not actually sure I know how to answer that!

My parents are Christians so I always went to church and heard about Jesus. I remember being away at a youth camp when I was 16 and realising that I was missing something, that’s when I decided it was Jesus that I needed.

What is your favourite Bible verse and why?

Not a verse but Psalm 139 just amazes me.

God knows what I’m going to say before anyone else, there is nowhere I can go where God isn’t with me, He saw me before it was possible for anyone else to see me and He thinks about me all of the time – that just blows my mind!

How did you become part of Jubilee Church?

We were at another Newfrontiers church in Birmingham before Jubilee but were living in North Solihull, which seemed so far away. I remember Rob and Alison visiting the church to say that they were going to be moving to Solihull and that was it, decision made. We didn’t know Rob and Alison and had no idea what it would be like but we knew we were coming. We came a few months after them and arrived in time to see the beginnings of what Jubilee is now.

How do you keep an appropriate church/work/life balance?

Not sure I always do – work/church/life blends together a lot sometimes but I do try to leave work when I leave the office otherwise I can’t work out if I’m doing work, church or just life. It doesn’t always happen but that’s always my plan – if I’m not in the office it can’t be work can it?

What are your hobbies?

Does sleeping count as a hobby?

I quite like the idea of running regularly and being outdoorish, but you have to actually do something for it to be a hobby don’t you!

What has been your favourite holiday destination so far and why?

Wales. I love being close to the sea and not far from mountains. I know it rains a lot and generally isn’t warm but there is something about it that just makes me happy.

Sum up your role in the church in 7 words

Officially: Personal Assistant to the Jubilee Elders

If Jubilee Church had a pet what would it be and why?

A donkey… I don’t know why, it might come in handy?

Donkey

If you had to give up either chocolate or cheese forever, which would it be? Why?

I think cheese… you can’t beat a bar of Dairymilk!
