Hebrews: A Book of Better Things

7th March 2025 by Rob Davey

Hebrews: A Book of Better Things

At the start of this series, we set out to discover that everything about Jesus is better because Jesus has no comparison. There is no one like Him, and what He offers is beyond anything or anyone else.

Through this journey in Hebrews, we’ve seen how Jesus is better than the angels, better than Moses, and better than the old covenant priesthood. He has given us a better promise, a better hope, a better life, and a better future. The writer of Hebrews urged us not to drift, not to turn back, but to fix our eyes on Jesus, knowing that even in hardship, He is worth holding on to.

Some may have started this series feeling worn out, uncertain, or even close to giving up. Hebrews has reminded us that Jesus is our great High Priest who understands our struggles, our perfect sacrifice who has made a way for us, and our faithful guide who leads us into God’s promises.

These are some of the challenges we have discovered in the series:
• Will we draw near to God with confidence?
• Will we hold unswervingly to the hope we profess?
• Will we persevere in faith, knowing that He who promised is faithful?

Jesus is better. He always has been, and He always will be.

Why not come on the journey with us?

Jesus is better
God has spoken through Jesus and His voice is superior to any other. Hebrews 1:1-4

Jesus: Better than Angels
Tom spoke from Hebrews 1:4-2:4 asking the question: Why does the writer of Hebrews focus so much on angels and what how does it relate to us?

Jesus: A Better Man
Talking from personal experience Paul spoke from Hebrews 2. What does the suffering of Jesus teach us in our pain and suffering?

Jesus: Greater than Moses
Talking about Hebrews 3:1-19 Rob asked: What does it look like to be a member of the House that God built?

Jesus: A Better Rest
From Hebrews 4:1-13 Becky talked about how we all need rest, but how do we find God’s better rest?

Jesus: A Better Priest
We don’t often think of Jesus as being our High Priest but considering this truth shapes, deepens and develops our faith. Hebrews 4:14-5:10

Jesus: Confident of Better Things
Rob’s talk from Hebrews 5:11 – 6:12 challenges us to self-examine, warns against complacency, and encourages us to be confident for better things.

Jesus: A Better Priesthood
Following on from his talk on Jesus: A Better Priest, Simon talked about who Melchizedek was and how his priestly order impacts us today? Hebrews 7:1-28
