God Stories of Healing: Tom’s story
New bones!
Playing football, 20 minutes in, an over-vigorous challenge left me flat on my back and writhing in pain. One of my team mates said he heard something crack.
X-rays showed the full extent
A few days later X-rays confirmed my collar bone had broken in 2 places – the fracture was wide and one corner had literally snapped and was crushed. The letter from the Fracture Clinic warned: “Because of the nature of this fracture it may take longer than the normal 6-8 weeks to heal.”
I spent several days in bed. I had to sleep propped up and was taking high doses of cocodamol to keep the pain down, but it was painful to do anything – even to sing. I was getting more and more frustrated.
A couple of weeks later I was at Church. Someone prayed for me. They asked God for “accelerated healing” and for complete restoration of movement in my collar bone. That night the pain was worse than ever!
The next morning my wife commented that I looked different. I was standing upright again (I’d been slumped because the collar bone had been out of place). The pain was a bit easier now but I still felt quite sore. I knew God had done something – it felt different.
“We couldn’t have done any better!”
That week back at the Fracture Clinic the same Registrar who had seen me previously looked confused and shocked as he compared the earlier X-ray with the one from that day. He was flicking between the 2 again and again. “I’ve never seen a collar bone heal so quickly. We couldn’t have done any better with surgery!” Where the piece had broken off he added, “You’ve got a bit of bone here – I don’t know where that’s come from!” I told him about the prayer and he agreed that was probably the explanation…
About the pain after the prayer he explained, “Well the bone has moved very fast, and that’s going to hurt.” We had asked God for accelerated healing and that’s what we got! This was now 3 weeks after that football match.
I’m thankful to God, who is able to do anything. Things happen, but He cares for us and He loves to display what He can do. I’m grateful that my collar bone was completely and totally restored – this was certainly a miracle!
Thank you to Lorraine for interviewing Tom for this blog post.
