The Throne of God
After being drawn to the theme of the throne of God in one of July’s church meetings, Hazel decided to spend the summer exploring God and His throne. Hazel explains how she studied the Bible and how the Holy Spirit inspired her creativity in both writing and collage.
“I really hadn’t been aware of all the symbolic links of the throne and throne room until now. There are many scriptures in several places in the Bible, but what has resonated with me is that God never changes and the golden thread of His love is woven through everything.
I began by writing all the verses I could find and firstly made a collage, as I find it easier to work visually.”
Afterwards I was led to write:
An invitation into the throne room of God.
Come walk with me into the throne room,
you are in front of the door that can only be shut by the King, whose throne we see, come in.
Here is a mercy seat made of justice and righteousness
sparkling as a sapphire stone
encircled by an emerald domed rainbow in a darkened sky.
See the river flowing from the seat, the water of life, clear as crystal, winding down the middle of the Holy City, lined by trees bearing healing leaves, given for the nations.
Cherubim bear the throne high and lifted up
and wheels within wheels blaze,
full of eyes – this King is on the move!
Four-faced heavenly beings look North and South, East and West,
representing the Evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
and the created order of creatures-
birds, wild and domestic animals and Man.
An angel points to a crystal sea before the throne,
so calm, it is like glass.
In this space, a King in jasper and carnelian jewels is ruling and reigning
with absolute power and authority
in matters of creation and redemption.
This King we see is God, our loving heavenly father
and the seven gifts and activities of Him –
Spirits of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, godliness, and the fear of Him flame their presence here.
His countenance is as lightning
and He can thunder wondrously with his voice.
Feel humbled by this omnipotent power
and feel loved and cherished as you consciously listen for His still small voice of calm.
Archangels, angels and Christ the Lion are all gathered here
proclaiming the holiness of God.
The throne room, this place, the engine room of love and the presence of God are more than the eyes ‘can see’
and so much greater than the sum of the parts.
He does great things we cannot comprehend.
Let us approach with confidence and reverence,
receive mercy and grace
to help us in our times of pain and sorrow, in our deepest hurting and groaning,
in our times of need.
Let us approach through prayer and contemplation
and join the heavenly voices
in praise, worship and adoration,
as we lay down our crowns at His feet and be thankful
that our God reigns above all that exists.
I thank the Lord for all he’s taught me. God never changes and the golden thread of his love is threaded through everything.
Praise him.
Thank you Hazel for sharing this powerful piece with us. How you’ve explored and expressed the throne room of God is deeply moving and beautifully captures His majesty and unchanging love. Your collage and writing paints such a vivid and spiritual image – it truly invites us into a deeper reflection of His presence.
