Jubilee Culture: Creativity

2nd March 2017 by Bernice Hopper

Jubilee Culture: Creativity

What is your response if you are asked if you are creative? Most people will say they are not because they think they are being asked if they draw or paint. But creativity is so much more than that! It encompasses hospitality, writing, knitting, sewing, photography, cooking, garden design – the list goes on and on.

In the past few months a team of us at Jubilee have been working on setting up a creative studio – a safe place to have fun, to play with a variety of media and meet up with like-minded people.Jubilee Studio

Creative activity

Some of us have been meeting up once a month in a home for Mixed Media Monday – a time to experiment with various creative techniques. We have found our time together embodies two of the church’s cultural values – courage and family. We have stepped out of our comfort zones with some of the techniques introduced and have demonstrated something of being family together – doing life, chatting about anything and everything as we relaxed and created together.

The studio consists of three spaces with designated areas for various activities including art, crafts, sewing, knitting, textiles, writing and photography, to name but a few. The studio will be available to the older Jubilee Kids on a Sunday morning and Youth on a Friday evening.

We have lots of ideas for the future. The studio could be used for: individual use during the day or evening, group workshops, parent and child art/craft sessions, a writing group, and Sew Social.

What’s happening already?

We have begun our ladies photography group, Snapshot Girls, on the second Monday of the month and Mixed Media Monday has moved in on the first Monday of the month. Our plan is to open up the studio for a ‘PlayDay’ once a month. The next one is on Tuesday 14th March from 10.30am-3.30pm.Mixed Media Monday

We all need to escape from the busyness of the world from time to time. Sometimes we want to get away from our to do lists and chill! And chat with friends. So I’m opening up the Jubilee studio for cake, coffee (or tea), and colouring! Wednesday 8th March from 8-9.30pm. Why don’t you come and join me? Find out more on our Facebook page.

We are introducing different activities slowly but believe that God will fill the room with the people he wants to see there – both men and women. Are you one of them?
