Going Deeper
Life is quite different at the moment for all of us. Many of us have needed to shelter at home with minimal social contact apart from Zoom meetings. Simon spoke a relevant message the day before lockdown happened: Psalm 91
In our online prayer meetings, lifegroup meetings and the main church meeting, many have felt that this was a time to rest in God and to go deeper with him. Angela Kemm recently brought us a timely message.
We have invited various church members to tell us how they have been going deeper with God, and what he has been saying to them.
Bernice’s story
As part of my going deeper with God, I started doing an online ecourse, Create 28, about creativity and partnering with God. One activity was to write a letter to myself from God. The work mentioned below is about my creative work.
I find it hard to hear God, so it was a struggle for me to sit down and write the letter FROM God. But once I got going it just flowed. Here’s what he said to me.
A letter from God
My child,
And you are my child. You are adopted into my family – co-heir with Jesus. You really are too hard on yourself. I love you. I made you. I made you to be uniquely you. Yes, you could pray more, read the Bible more, but that wouldn’t make me love you more. I made you unique. Your work is your work. Only you can make the work you do. Even if others have made work on the same theme, your work will be different. It will be uniquely yours.
You may not feel you have partnered with me, but my Holy Spirit lives inside you. The thoughts you have about your work and the inspiration you get is part of the work of the Holy Spirit. You may not think you partnered with me over your piece about your hand but think of the inspiration it gave the lady at Uttoxeter. Your work spoke to her. Your work doesn’t have to ‘Christian’ or ‘religious’ for it to be a partnership.
Relax. Stop beating yourself up.
Just BE the person I made you to be. Unique. Creative. Loving. Fun.
You are already willingly sharing your expertise. You give generously. But even if you didn’t I would still love you. You may not physically feel my touch but look at your life and see what I have done. You may not have prayed every day through your trip to Australia, but you knew to ask your lifegroup friends to pray and believed I would answer. And I answered. Everything happened as you hoped. That’s my love for you.
Keep seeking. Keep seeking me. Keep seeking your creativity. The peace you have felt in recent weeks comes from me. Let nothing disturb it. Just keep being you.
Love, God
I was stunned. Maybe I should listen to God more often! I have been so encouraged by this. Not just in what God said but also that I can hear him, if I just calm down, and rest.
What has God been saying to you?
Good Good Father
