Glimpses of Jesus

6th October 2016 by Bernice Hopper

Glimpses of Jesus

During 2016 Jubilee Church has been running a blog called ‘Glimpses of Jesus in the Old Testament’.

Our aim

Our aim has been to try to paint a picture of Jesus as hinted at, indicated, outlined and glimpsed in the Old Testament. We have not attempted to provide a comprehensive study but we hoped it would be both accessible and helpful to people and serve to deepen both understanding of, and relationship with, the greatest man who ever lived.

How did the blog come about?

The idea for the blog grew out of a question that Bernice asked Simon: ‘Is it possible to find a revelation of Jesus in every book of the Bible?’ Simon’s response was to say ‘I am convinced that the whole of scripture reveals something about Jesus. Some books are very clear like Exodus and Ruth. In some books it would be a bit of a stretch! There’s also a danger with making it seem like the revelation of Jesus is the main message of each book when in fact a number of the revelations hinge on a single verse or passage’.

From this Simon and Bernice discussed setting up a blog with 52 posts about finding Jesus in the Old Testament. As Simon began to plan out the posts he decided he wouldn’t use every book of the Old Testament but would focus on passages that point us directly to Jesus.

How does the blog work?

The blog started in the first week of January and has continued every week since. However, the blog is designed such that it is possible to start reading the blog at any time. The first post was about Creation.

Each week Simon’s post is accompanied by a worship video, a ‘To think about’ section to encourage the reader to apply the truth in some way, and a creative response. We encourage people to respond to the blog post creatively and it is possible for people to add a creative response via a linky tool. The creative responses on the blog are mostly from Esther and Bernice, whilst Fiona has been knitting a blanket and discussing her thoughts on her excellent blog: The Glimpses Blanket
