Dreaming with God
At the beginning of 2025, Rob encouraged us to expect great things from God and to dream big. How are you getting on with that?
Joyce Meyer suggests that: ‘Dreaming big dreams is part of our spiritual DNA. It’s rooted in hope and fuelled by faith. God doesn’t just allow us to dream, He created us to dream big, think big, imagine big and make big plans for our life’.
What dreams has God given you?
Every person is created uniquely with specific passions, giftings and abilities. We have certain characteristics for a reason. No two people’s dreams are exactly the same. We each have a specific task from God to complete for His glory!
We need to embrace who we are and the desires God has put in our hearts. We need to strengthen our gifts, use our resources and keep our eyes focused on Christ. As we do this the Holy Spirit will help us pursue our God-given dreams.
Do you feel overwhelmed by your dream?
Don’t worry. Matthew 19:26 says, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Don’t be afraid to dream big dreams because we have a big God who can do all things.
We shouldn’t feel discouraged if our dreams seem beyond your capabilities. God is with us and will help us succeed in doing His will for our lives. He will equip us with everything we need to achieve the dreams He has given us so that we can point the way to Him.
Does your dream seem impossible?
Dreaming with God isn’t meant to be easy. Remember: Dreams remain dreams if no action is taken.
As John Maxwell puts it: “Dreams don’t work unless you do.”
Just because God has given us a dream doesn’t mean the result will be handed to us on a plate. We need to partner with the Holy Spirit to see the dream come to fruition.
It may take many years to see it all happen which is why sometimes God only gives us part of the dream. Or the dream God has given you maybe for a time in the future. The dream can’t be fulfilled in this current season. For example you may have young children and now is not the time to be chasing your dream. But there may be simple things you can do while you wait.
Where to start?
Write your dream down.
Ask yourself what stops you achieving this dream?
Do you need to learn new skills?
Do you need to gain knowledge in order to move forward?
Do you need to serve someone else’s dream first?
Do you need to spend time getting closer to God.
Pray
But the important thing is to say YES to God. And then step out in courage. Find people to support you. But only share your dream with people you trust will support you. The wrong people will shoot your dream down in flames.
My Story
In asking God what purpose He had for my life he gave me the dream of sharing my creativity and my knowledge with others. I dreamt of sharing beyond the ‘walls’ of the church. I started with helping a small number of people in the church and then was asked to teach a Creativity Ministry School. Through this I gained confidence to move out beyond the church to teach workshops to textile groups and give talks about my work. I have had the support and encouragement of a few friends as I’ve walked along this path. I have exhibited my own work with textile groups, but this year had the privilege of a 6 week exhibition with a friend. In 2026 I will be the Artist in Residence for four weeks at the Hurstville Museum and Art Gallery, New South Wales and teaching two workshops whilst I’m there. Who knows where God is taking me next!
Remember, God wants us to dream big dreams with Him.
